DIFFERENT GOOD- THE STORY
What if you do everything right and the worst still happens?
That’s the question we were forced to ask ourselves when our “normal life” was interrupted by a torrent of painful events, including the sudden death of a father and the recurrence of a cancer we thought was gone for good.
Shaken and depressed, we diligently navigated funerals, doctor’s appointments, and the everyday work of raising our young children, as if on autopilot. But beneath the surface, our souls cried out, “Why?”
And then in that void, God met us. He didn’t give us answers; instead he gave us songs. Songs that raised questions we'd been afraid to ask. Songs that expressed feelings we didn't think we had permission to feel. Songs that allowed us to stop running from our grief.

Songs came at 3 a.m. while nursing a tiny newborn through another sleepless night.

2 p.m., sweating from a gut-punch conversation with the insurance company.

10 p.m., in the dark of a sleeping house, waiting to leave for a late-night radiation treatment.

Back home, we had an army of family and friends praying for us like it was life and death. (Which, I guess, it was.) And with each song that came out of the nothing, it felt like we were simply receiving something, being ministered to by these words and songs. Like God was sending us reinforcements.
By the time the treatments were over and we were uneasily reintroduced to “normal life,” we had an armful of songs. For several months we hid them in our hearts and sang them to each other, sang them over our kids, let the truth in those words put us back together in another season of waiting. Months down the road, the only people who knew about the songs were family and friends. And gently, as we came out of the worst of it, they started to ask us, “Is it possible, maybe, these songs aren’t just for you?”
If you are in a season of waiting,
or suffering,
or disappointment,
or trying to walk with someone in a dark time,
our hope is that these songs meet you there.

And maybe one day, you too will be able to look back at even the most painful events of your life history and know that there was never a moment that you weren’t seen and loved.
Wherever you are on that journey, we hope this music will help you along the way.
